Scrapping manpower agreement govt’s inefficiency: Moudud

Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior leader Moudud Ahmed on Saturday blamed the government for its inefficiency for ‘cancellation’ of agreement with Malaysia government earlier signed to recruit Bangladeshi workers.
He came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion to mark the 37th death anniversary of noted politician, Mashiur Rahman Jadu Miah, who was also a BNP vice-chairman.
Mashiur Rahman Jadu Miah Jatiya Smriti Committee organised the function at the National Press Club.
The organisation distributed ‘Smarok Sammanana’ (commemoration honour) among some noted people for their contribution to various fields of social science and culture.
BNP standing committee member Moudud said he was happy to see the news that 15 lakh Bangladeshi nationals would be recruited by Malaysia government.
He said he came to know that Malaysian foreign minister cancelled the agreement.
Moudud said everything depended on the government’s efficiency, capability of works and farsightedness.
Moudud also came down hard on the government for theft of huge amount of reserved money of Bangladesh Bank.
He said none of the country would believe that the reserved money was plundered by hackers without cooperation of officials of Bangladesh Bank.
Moudud said BNP rejected militancy, extremism, terrorism and fundamentalism, pledging that BNP would take special programme to eliminate those forces if they come to power.
He said rise of militancy, extremism and terrorism is an eventual outcome of lack of democracy and added that other forces would try to demolish the country by taking advantage of absence of democracy.
He said BNP would extend cooperation if the government takes initiative to solve the current crisis. Moudud also called for taking steps to hold a fair election to end the crisis.
He said Jadu Miah had an important role to the initiative of late president Ziaur Rahman to create a political base for restoring democracy.
Ganaswasthya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury said Mashiur Rahman Jadu Miah was an outspoken leader and what he thought spoke openly.
He regretted that sometimes BNP leaders do not open their mouths before the party chairperson, Khaleda Zia.
He said now democracy has been buried in the name of development and that the country is plagued by repression, extreme corruption and autocracy.
He said now police, Election Commission and Anti-Corruption Commission are running the country.
Senior Journalist and columnist Sadek Khan said Masihur Rahman Jadu Miah had the quality to beget friends easily.
Presided over by Mashiur Rahman Jadu Miah Jatiya Smriti Committee convener Shamsul Haque, the discussion was addressed among others by BNP vice-chairman Abdullah Al Noman, joint secretary general Mohammad Shahjahan, National Awami Party chairman and grandson of Jadu Miah, Zebel Rahman, former JCD general secretary Abul Kashem Chowdhury, Mohiuddin Khan Mohan and daughter of Jadu Miah, Rita Rahman.
