DMP bans occupational sticker, loud hooters in cars

Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Wednesday banned occupational stickers including that of press, police and lawyer and the use of hooters, hydraulic horns and beaconing lights in private vehicles.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia made the announcement at a press conference at the DMP headquarters.
He said that miscreants were now using such occupational stickers and getting away with crimes.
‘Only those with actual credentials can use stickers of their respective organisations, and that must be permanently embossed on the car,’ he said.

The commissioner said that police started drives against hydraulic horns, hooters and beaconing lights in private vehicles and anyone would be punished if such irritating materials were are found in the vehicles.
‘Only law enforcement agencies, ambulance and fire fighters can use hooters and beaconing lights, but some people are using hydraulic horns, hooters and beaconing lights in private vehicles,’ he said.
The metropolitan police chief assured the citizens that the cops who would harass any citizen on roads would be given exemplary punishment.
He said that they had decided to form local surveillance teams at every ward of the city to curb crimes.
The team would consist of local representatives, police, journalists, politicians and individuals from various walks of life, who would observe the activities of unscrupulous people in their respective areas and inform respective police stations, he said.
The commissioner urged the city dwellers to submit the personal data forms to police stations soon and warned that who would provide wrong information would be punished.
