CJ for strong bar to ensure rule of law

Chief justice SK Sinha on Monday underscored the need for having a strong bar in order to ensure the rule of law and the freedom of judiciary in the country.
The made the remarks while addressing a discussion marking the death anniversary of Shamsul Haque Chowdhury, a bar leader during the autocratic rule in the 1980s, at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium.
The chief justice said there will be no good judges unless there is a strong bar.
Explaining the reason, he said in Bangladesh most of the Supreme Court judges are appointed from the bar.
Eminent lawyer Kamal Hossain, SCBA president Yusuf Hossain Humayun, its general secretary Mahbub Uddin Khokon spoke at the programme with Bangladesh Bar Council vice-chairman Abdul Baset Majumder in the chair.
