NHRC thinks Rasraj didn't post doctored Kaaba pic

The National Human Rights Commission chairman, Kazi Reazul Hoque, on Thursday said their high powered probe team suggested that Rasraj Das did not upload the doctored photo hurting Muslim religious sentiment on his facebook profile.

‘He is an illiterate person. It is not possible for him to doctor a photo and upload it,’ he said in a press conference held at NHRC conference room at Mogbazar in the capital.

He said that the local administration and police have to take responsibility of the attack on Hindus and looting their houses, businesses and temples.

The probe team had found the administration’s lack of foresightedness and goodwill for tackling the attack.

Talking to New Age, he said that withdrawing the Nasirnagar police officer-in-charge was not enough.

‘He should be suspended, a departmental case should be initiated immediately and proper action against him should be taken,’ he said.

He said that the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Nasirnagar should be withdrawn immediately and to take action against him after investigation.

Rasraj was arrested on Saturday, a day after a doctored photo of Kaaba hurting Muslim religious sentiment was posted on his facebook profile, and is now languishing in jail.

Before he was arrested, a post on his wall showed that the doctored photo was deleted and he apologised to the Muslim community and claimed that he did not post the photo.

Muslim mobs instigated by madrassah students damaged 15 temples, attacked houses and businesses, on Sunday.
