Khaleda wants to land in jail to avoid peoples’ wrath: Hasina.
The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Wednesday told parliament that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, being isolated from the people, now wanted to land in jail to save herself from the wrath of people. ‘She [Khaleda] now wants to stay at Nazimuddin Road [location of the Dhaka central jail] to save her from peoples’ wrath…She is afraid to come out from her office,’ Hasina said replying to a question from Jatiya Party secretary general Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu. She said that Khaleda, also former prime minister, was horrified by public reactions against her failed movement. The prime minister said that the government would take actions against Khaleda as per court directives for her absence from the court.
She said that Khaleda showed disrespect to the court by not appearing before the court violating its order and thus she was destroying the image and dignity of the court and instigating others to do so. ‘Law will take its own course, we will have to follow the court orders,’ Hasina said. She said that she had no idea of Khaleda’s absence from the court on Wednesday. ‘Adequate security ensured so that she could appear before the court,’ she claimed. ‘It is unfortunate that we have to ensure security for her [Khaleda] who is engaged in killing people in firebomb attacks,’ said Hasina. The prime minister claimed she had talked to some former BNP lawmakers who told her that they could not be involved in acts of sabotage or firebomb attacks on innocent people.
