JOF formally regrets PM’s invitation to tea party
The Jatiya Oikya Front sent a letter to prime minister Sheikh Hasina informing her that the opposition alliance regretted her invitation to a tea party at Ganabhaban on Saturday.
The letter was signed by Oikya Front steering committee member and Gono Forum executive president Subrata Chowdhury.
It was handed over to prime minister’s protocol officer Khorshed Alam at Ganabhaban at about 1:00pm by front’s office chief Jahangir Alam Mintu, coordination committee member Ajmeri Begum Chhanda and media chief Jahangir Alam Prodhan, said a front release.
In the letter, the alliance said that it was not possible for the front leaders to join the tea party in a situation when the government was in no way ‘ethical’ one and formed through a ‘farcical’ election.
It also said that the people’s minimum democratic rights and voting rights were taken away on the polling day on December 30, 2018 while thousands of leaders and activists of the Oikya Front were still in jail and numerous leaders and activists were still being arrested in ‘new false’ cases.
The letter mentioned that the front steering committee meeting on Thursday unanimously decided not to take part in the tea party.
