BU students continue protests demanding VC’s removal
Students of Barishal University continued their protests for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday for removal of vice-chancellor Professor SM Imamur Rahman rejecting his regretful statement for branding students as offspring of razakar.
In the afternoon, the agitated students organised a protest rally at Central Shahid Minar of the university and performed different cultural programmes like satirical drama, songs, poems recitation.
They also chanted slogans protesting at the VC’s comment and demanded his immediate removal.
On Friday night, Imamul Haque in a meeting of syndicate committee at BU liaison office in Dhaka explained that he did not brand students as offspring of razakar, but he used the phrase against those who opposed and foiled the programme of Independence and National Day on March 26.
The VC said, ‘If anyone becomes hurt by my comment, I express my regret.’
The statement of VC was published on BU website as a press note signed by Hasanur Rahman, registrar of the university.
But the agitated students rejected the VC’s statement and claimed that the statement was not true.
The students further said they had proof that the VC branded the general students as offspring of razakar.
The students also vowed to continue their movement until removal of the VC from his post.
