No change in BNP’s stand on election-time neutral govt: Khaleda

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, on Saturday said that her party had not changed its stand on holding of election under a neutral government.
‘We want to contest election, but that election has to be held under a neutral government,’ she said at an opinion exchange meeting with newly elected BNP-backed office bearers of Rajshahi Bar Association at her Gulshan office.
Khaleda said that people would never get scope to exercise franchise in any election under the government of Sheikh Hasnia.
Referring to her recent statement over election-time neutral government, she said that some newspapers tried to misinterpret her statement. She accused a Bangla daily of spreading confusion over the issue.
Khaleda said that BNP wanted to bring qualitative change in politics.
She said that BNP did not believe in politics of vendetta and revenge but believed in people’s welfare, good governance, rule of law, development and justice.
She said if her party was voted to power, everybody including in administration and other institutions would be evaluated on their merit, skill and qualification irrespective of political affiliation.
She assured that none would be sacked unjustly from job as many had been forced to carry out orders.
Khaleda said that some parasites indicating Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction leader Hasnul Huq Inu had gathered in the Awami League who had once scolded Awami League leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
She said that the Awami League was damaging itself listening their words and parasites were flattering Hasina to cling to power.
She alleged that those parasites had instigated Awami League and Chhatra League men to hurl petrol bombs at transports.
She alleged that the police were forced to set fire on buses and the BNP had proofs of such arson attacks.
She said that people were not getting justice as the judiciary was politicised and partisan people had been appointed.
Khaleda demanded resignation of the incumbent Election Commission alleging that now people are being enrolled in voter list at their age of 14 or 15 years.
On reorganisation of the party, the BNP chairperson said that committees would not be imposed from Dhaka and asked the field level leaders to bring real BNP men and dedicated ones in the leadership giving priority to the young generation. She said that elderly leaders would remain as advisers.
She congratulated the new Bangladeshi citizens of enclave dwellers.
BNP standing committee members Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar, BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandker Mahbub Hossain and Rajshahi Bar Association president Nazmus Shahdat among others addressed the function.
