BNP allies to launch prog for Khaleda’s release
Several political parties belonging to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led alliance are likely to launch a programme to realise demands including release of BNP chief Khaleda Zia now in jail.
‘We’ll make an announcement [on Thursday],’ Liberal Democratic Party President Oli Ahmed told New Age over phone on Wednesday evening without detail.
Shahadat Hossain Selim, joint secretary-general of the LDP, said that they [LDP] invited several political parties to join a press conference of the BNP-led alliance to announce the programme for achieving demands including the release of Khaleda Zia, as the BNP as a political party had failed to launch such a programme.
The political parties, which were invited to the press conference, are Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Bangladesh Kalyan
Party, Khelafat Majlish and Jatiya Ganatantrik Party-JAGPA, among others, he added.
Khaleda Zia, a former prime minister, has been convicted in two graft cases that were started against her during the military-controlled regime of Fakhruddin Ahmed in 2007-2008.
