GD filed for safety of Ershad’s son
A general diary was filed on Monday with the Gulshan police station seeking safety for Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad’s son Shahata Zarab Ershad Eric.
Hussain Muhammad Ershad Trust director and JP presidium member retired major Md Khaled Akhter, on behalf of the ailing Jatiya Party chief and his mentally challenged son Eric, lodged the diary stating that some unidentified people were calling and threatening Eric on his personal mobile phone.
‘We do not know the exact reason [for the threats] but we assume that properties of the trust could be a cause,’ Khaled told New Age.
Gulshan police station officer-in-charge Mahbub Alam said that the GD was filed at around 2:30pm and the police had already asked the mobile operator to provide the call records of Eric’s number.
The trust surfaced as an issue as Ershad became seriously ill a few months ago.
He has, meanwhile, donated all his properties, including two apartments in Dhaka, two houses and a cold storage in Rangpur and FDRs worth over Tk 12 crore, to the trust with the aim to provide financial support to mentally disabled Eric, born to his divorced wife Bidisha Siddiqui.
Ershad, however, has given nothing to Rahgir Al Mahi Saad Ershad, born to Rawshan Ershan, JP leaders said.
But he gave some properties to his adopted son Arman many years ago and told Rawshan to give some share of her property to their adopted daughter Jebin.
The property issue has been in discussion since Ershad was admitted to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital on March 22.
JP acting chairman GM Quader on Monday told the press that Ershad’s health condition at the CMH remained unchanged though he was not out of danger.
