Another ruling party man, accused of triple murder in a factional clash in city, was killed in an ‘encounter’ with the law enforcers on early Friday at Gazipur.
The victim, Saidur Rahman, 35, a Juba League leader, was involved in murdering three people, claimed police.
A total of four men of the ruling party and its front organisation were killed in subsequent encounters with police and Rapid Action Battalion, in the last four days.
A concerned police official said he was also part of Badda triple murder recently.
Police said Saidur was a ‘wanted criminal’ for crimes he allegedly committed in the city’s Badda neighbourhood.
His family members said he was associated with the ruling Awami League’s youth front, the Juba League.
He used to live at Shimultala of south Badda.
Saidur was detained on Thursday afternoon based on a tip-off, said Gazipur detective branch officer-in-charge, Amir Hossain.
The OC said he provided information on a location where a pistol and some bullets were hidden at Salna. Police recovered the arms and ammunition and launched further drive for more arms, taking him with them, immediate after midnight.
The cohorts of Saidur were waiting for an ambush, he claimed. They began firing at the police.
‘Police retaliated and in the gun battle Saidur was hit,’ said the DB official.
Detectives brought Saidur to Saheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital where he died due to excessive bleeding, said the hospital’s resident physician, Abdus Salam Sarkar.
He was accused of murdering a lawyer in Gazipur and there were five cases with Badda police station against him, claimed police.
Local people said Saidur was one of the shooters in the Badda triple murder.
