COLLABORATORS’ LIST Legal notice asks minister, secy to apologise

A Supreme Court lawyer in a legal notice Thursday asked liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Huq and its secretary SM Arif-ur Rahman to seek an ‘unconditional conditional apology’ to the nation in 24-hour for including names of recognised freedom fighters and organisers of the war in the list of collaborators published on December 15.

The notice sender, SM Zulfiqure Ali, said in the notice that appropriate legal action would be taken against the minister and secretary for treason and violating the constitution by humiliating the freedom fighters if they do not tender their unconditional apology in the stipulated period.

On Sunday, the ministry published a partial list of 10,789 collaborators on its website 48 years after the independence and the list drew criticism from the ministers, attorney general, political leaders, freedom fighters and their relatives as it included names of about 50 government recognised freedom fighters and organisers of the war as Pakistani collaborators.

In the face of nationwide protests, liberation war affairs ministry on Wednesday suspended its list of collaborators of Pakistani military during war of independence for further verification at the instruction of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

‘Following the verification, we will try to publish it on the next Independence Day on March 26,’ liberation war affairs minister told New Age on Wednesday.
