I can’t imagine it: Zafar Iqbal
Writer and computer scientist Muhammad Zafar Iqbal on Sunday said that he had never imagined that students could beat up their teachers.
He made the observation in his reaction to an incident in which ruling Awami League backed student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League activists beat teachers at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, who were staging protests for the removal of the vice-chancellor.
Asked about his reaction, he told reporters that Chhatra League people dishonoured the slogan ‘Joy Bangla’ by attacking their teacher chanting the slogan, ‘which was the slogan of the war of independence of the country.’
Zafar Iqbal, also a professor and director of information technology centre of the university, observed the attack on the teachers was sitting beside the spot amidst rain.
Zafar said he was suffering from an extreme mental agony as he had to observe the scene.
‘I never imagined it in my life,’ Zafar said, adding that he should commit suicide if the attackers were his students.
