BNP holds demo against rejection of Khaleda’s bail petition
Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Sunday went out on demonstrations at thanas across Dhaka city protesting against the rejection of the bail prayer of the party’s ailing chairperson Khaleda Zia and demanding her immediate release.
The demonstrations, announced within an hour of Khaleda’s bail prayer rejection by a High Court bench on Thursday, was scheduled to be held in all cities and district towns across the country on Saturday but BNP announced demonstrations in Dhaka for Sunday as police did not allow it to hold rally in front of its central office on Saturday.
Addressing the short rallies prior to bring out processions at the thanas, BNP leaders alleged that Khaleda was not given bail at the instruction of the government as part of their politics of vengeance.
They alleged that the government had kept Khaleda in jail as the prime minister wanted to eliminate her main competitor to remain in power illegally.
The Sutrapur and Wari thana units of BNP jointly brought out a procession from near Dhaka Court building and ended in a short rally a Nababpur Road after parading different streets.
Sutrapur thana BNP general secretary Md Azizul Islam and Wari thana BNP organising secretary Golam Mostafa Selim spoke at the rally.
Kadamtali thana unit BNP also brought out a procession from Natun Rasta at Jurain and ended at in front of Ad-Din Hospital of the same area to press home their demand.
Similar processions were brought out by thana units of Kamrangirchar, Demra, Jatrabari, Shahajahanpur, Dhanmondi, Bangshal, Khilgaon, Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Hazaribagh, Kotwali, Paltan, Chawkbazar and Matijheel, BNP leaders said.
