Three killed in ‘gunfights’ in Dhaka, Munshiganj
Three suspected robbers were killed in two separate incidents of ‘gunfights’ in Dhaka and Munshiganj on Tuesday.
The deceased in Dhaka was Ali Hossain Titu, 30, of Demra in the capital. The single name of one of the deceased in Munshiganj was Masud, 35, while the identity of another could not be known immediately.
In Dhaka, Ali Hossain, the prime suspect in a recent robbery in two medicine shops in the capital, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police at Bachhila under Mohammadpur in the capital early Tuesday.
The metropolitan police’s west zone additional deputy commissioner Anis Uddin said that they arrested five people at different places of the city for their suspected involvement in robberies on the nights following April 1 and April 5 and the arrestees informed them that Ali Hossain led their gang.
He said that they detected Ali Hossain’s location at Mohammadpur on Monday night and a team, on secret information, went to Bochhila area to nab him at about 12:15am on Tuesday and Ali Hossain was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with detectives.
New Age correspondent in Munshiganj reported that two suspected robbers including Masud were killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion members at Bejgaon in Srinagar in the district at about 12:30pm on Tuesday.
RAB-2 crimes prevention company-3 commander Mohiuddin Faruqui said that they raided Bejgaon area to nab the robbers and the robbers, sensing the presence of RAB members, opened fire on them and RAB also retaliated by firing ensuing a ‘gunfight’.
He said that they later searched the area and found bodies of two robbers.
RAB seized one pistol, two bullets and seven bhories of gold ornaments from the spot.
