3 killed in ‘gunfight’ with police in Teknaf
Three suspected criminals were killed and five police personnel were injured in a ‘gunfight’ with police at hilly area of Rangikhali in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar early Wednesday.
The deceased were Nurul Alam,40, and Syed Alam, 35, sons of later Abdul Momin, and Abdul Monaf,20, son of Sabbir Ahmed, all residents of Rangikhali madrassah para in Teknaf.
Teknaf police said the deceased people formed a crime ring in the area and were preparing to commit robbery. On information police went to Rangikhali hills at about 4:00am to arrest them.
As police reached there, the ‘criminals’ opened fire on police forcing them to retaliate with gunshots, said Prodeep Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station.
After the gunfight police found the bodies of the trio along with 18 local weapons, 200 cartridges and 55,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, he said.
Prodeep said that five police personnel including a sub-inspector also sustained injuries during the ‘gunfight’.
The bodies were sent to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital for autopsy.
