Four, including Rohingya boy, killed in Cox’s Bazar gunfight
Four people, including a teenage Rohingya refugee, were killed in a gunfight between two groups of suspected drug peddlers at Nayabarar area of Hoykong union of Teknaf early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Rohingya refugee Mohammad Ismail, 17, son of Noor Ahmed of East Sadgoria para village, Mohammad Anwar, 23, son of Hakim Ali, Mohammad Nasir, 34, son of Abdus Salam and Anwar Hossain of Moheshkhali.
Pradeep Kumar Das, office-in-charge of Teknaf police station, said that police were patrolling on Cox’s Bazar -Teknaf highway at Nayabazar area at around 4:00am when they found two rival groups of drug peddlers engaged in a gunfight.
Police rushed to the spot and recovered four bullet-hit persons and send them to Teknaf Hospital where duty doctors declared them dead.
Later, police sent the bodies to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police seized 50,000 yaba pills, two locally made guns and four bullets from their possessions.
A case was filed with Teknaf police station in this connection.
With Mohammad Ismail, a total of 101 Rohingya refugees, including women, were killed in gunfights in Cox's Bazar since January 2019.
They were facing various allegations including drug trading, human trafficking and robbery.
