Four cops, three ‘witnesses’ placed on seven-day remand
A court in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday granted seven-day remand for each of the three suspects arrested a day earlier for their alleged link in the killing of retired army major Mohammad Rashed Khan.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah passed the order after hearing the remand petitions filed by Rapid Action Battalion.
RAB arrested Nurul Amin, 21, Nizam Uddin, 42, and Ayas Uddin, 40 at Marishbunia area of Teknaf on Tuesday and sought them 10-day in custody for interrogation.
The three were named as ‘witnesses’ in the first information report of a case filed by the Teknaf police sub-inspector Nanda Dulal Rakshit over the incident.
Meanwhile, the same court also granted seven-day remand for four suspended policemen following a petition filed by RAB investigation officer.
Mohammad Mostafa, the lawyer of slain major Sinha’s sister Sharmin Saharia Ferdous, who filed the case against nine policemen on August 5, confirmed the matter.
RAB investigator Jamil Ahmed had filed a petition on August 10 seeking 10-day remand for suspended assistant sub-inspector Liton Mia, constable Safanoor Karim, constable Kamal Hossein and constable Abdullah Al Mamun.
RAB earlier interrogated the quartet in jail gate following court orders.
Sinha, 36, who took early retirement from the Bangladesh Army in November 2018, was shot dead at a police checkpoint on Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive at Shamlapur under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar on July 31.
Seven policemen, including the then Teknaf police station officer-in-charge Pradeep Kumar Das, surrendered to the court following the case filed by the Sinha’s family.
