Court orders seizure of Samrat’s flats

The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court on Tuesday ordered to seizure of two flats of expelled Dhaka South city Awami Juba League president Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat.

Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order after hearing an application filed by Anti-Corruption Commission deputy director Jahangir Alam.

Jahangir, also the investigation officer of a case the commission filed on November 12, 2019 accusing Samrat of possessing illegal wealth of Tk 2.94 crore, in the application argued that Samrat’s bank accounts were frozen following a court order and the two flats should be seized for the sake of investigation.

The Rapid Action Battalion arrested Samrat and his close aide Arman, also former vice-president of the same unit of Juba League, at a house near in Cumilla Indian border on October 6, 2019.

Samrat came under the spotlight after the battalion busted his illegal casino business at different sports clubs in Dhaka. He was expelled from the Juba League following his arrest.
