N’GANJ 7 KILLING : Court in India orders Noor’s extradition

A district court in India ordered on Friday extradition of Narayanganj seven-murder prime suspect Noor Hossain to Bangladesh by December 15.
The Barasat Chief Judicial Magistrates’ Court in North 24 Pargana district of West Bengal in India passed the order as it withdrew trespassing charge against him, United News of Bangladesh reported.
The court asked the jail superintendent of the Damdam Jail, where Noor Hossain and his two accomplices were now detained, to extradite him to Bangladesh.
The court, however, ordered continuation of the case against two other accused – Khan Sumon and Wahiduzzaman – who were arrested along with Noor Hossain at an apartment in Kolkata on June 14, 2014.
‘We have followed all formalities already and are waiting eagerly to bring back the criminal whenever the Indian authorities set time and place,’ said Narayanganj superintendent of police Kh Mahid Uddin, who was supervising the seven killings case.
On April 27, 2014, Rapid Action Battalion men allegedly picked up the then Narayanganj city panel mayor Nazrul Islam and four of his associates, and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarkar and his driver from Dhaka-Narayangnaj link road.
Their bodies were found floating in Sitalakhya River after a couple of days, triggering protests.
Nazrul’s widow Selina Islam Beauty filed a case against Awami League Siddhirganj’s unit senior vice-president Noor Hossain and five others. Chandan Kumar’s son-in-law Bijoy Kumar Pal filed another case against unnamed people.
In May 2014, the police sought the Interpol’s cooperation to arrest Noor Hossain, who escaped to India nearly a week after the killings.
On April 8, 2015, police submitted two charge sheets against 35 people including the Narayanganj city councillor Noor Hssain and 25 officers and rankers of Rabid Action Battalion for the killing of the seven people.
The 35 accused also included detained the then RAB-11 commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Tareque Sayeed Mohammad, also son-in-law of cabinet member Mufazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, the then RAB-11 special company commander Major Arif Hossain and the then RAB-11 Crime Prevention Company commander Lieutenant Commander Masud Rana.
The three military officers had been sent into retirement and they were now behind the bars.
