Rajon’s father says he was threatened, offered bribe
Samiul Alam Rajon’s father Sheikh Azizul Islam on Sunday expressed anxiety over security of his family members.
He was talking to newsmen at Sylhet metropolitan sessions judge court premises in the afternoon just after delivering the verdict in the case of the killing of his son.
The ill-fated father alleged relatives and neighbours of the convicts had asked him at different times to reach an ‘understanding’ with them instead of pursuing the case.
He said the convicts’ relative offered to give Tk 15 lakh if he agreed to withdraw the case and they threatened him later as he did not agree to compromise with his son’s killers.
‘We will see how you can stay alive after punishing our men,’ Azizul said, quoting relatives of the convicts as saying.
He said he was worried as he has to come to the city and go back home every day using the road along the home of the prime killer Kamrul and his relatives.
He claimed local union council member Gias Uddin and Khaled had also insisted he compromise with the killers.
Stating that he was extremely worried about the security of his only surviving nine-year-old son Sajiul Alam Sajan, Azizul said he did not know how they would be able to raise and school Sajan in a safe environment.
‘I am seeking help from all in society and the administration and asking them to look after my child,’ appealed Azizul.
He said the Jalalabad police had provided proper security to his family immediately after the incident of killing of Samiul, but ‘now the police are not sincere about ensuring our security.’
Jalalabad police officer-in-charge Akhter Hossain, however, claimed they have been providing security to the family since they came to know the incident of beating to death of Samiul on July 8.
Sylhet metropolitan sessions judge’s court on Sunday sentenced four of the accused to death, another to life term imprisonment, three to suffer seven years in jail and two to suffer one year imprisonment in the case for killing Samiul.
