Mita Haq (06 September 1962 – 11 April 2021) was a Bangladeshi renowned Rabindra Sangeet singer. For more than three decades, she had been enthralling audiences worldwide with her rendition of Tagore songs that has won her applause from music lovers of all shades and forms. She had been a regular performer in the Bangladesh Television and radio since 1977. She was the Highest Grade (Bishesh) artist of the National Radio (Betar) and National TV (BTV).
Mita was born into a musical family in Dhaka. At the age of eleven, she participated at the International Children's Festival in Berlin in 1974 and since then, has travelled to India, USA, Canada, United Kingdom, and Vietnam for performances. She is the wife of late actor Khaled Khan. His uncle is Wahidul Haque, a pioneer of the country's cultural movement and a Rabindranath researcher. The noted artiste received her musical training from maestros including her paternal uncle and late musicologist Waheedul Haq, current Chhayanaut President Sanjida Khatun. In 1976 she started taking formal music lessons from tabla player Ustad Mohammad Hossain Khan.
Besides her esteemed singing career, Mita was the founder director and teacher of her music school Shurotirtha. She served as the head of the Department of Rabindra Sangeet at Chhayanaut Sangeet Bidyayatan and also as the former General Secretary and former Vice-president of the Rabindra Sangeet Shommelon Parishad.
Mita, the acclaimed singer sang about 200 Rabindra Sangeet. She has released a total of 24 solo albums. Of these, 14 are from India and 10 from Bangladesh. She received the Shilpakala Padak in 2016 and Rabindra Puraskar from Bangla Academy in 2017. The Government of Bangladesh awarded her the Ekushey Padak in 2020 for her significant contribution in music.
Mita died on 11 April 2021 after contracting COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. She also had been suffering from kidney issues for the last five years.
