Professor Dr. M M Akash (born 09 November 1954) is a Bangladeshi Economist and Professor in the Department of Economics, Dhaka University. His main interests are the rural socio-economic system, the political economy of poverty and 21st century socialism.

Akash was born in Dhaka. He completed his BSS (Honours) and MSS in Economics under University of Dhaka in 1977 and 1979 respectively. He joined as a lecturer of Economics in the same University in 1982. He lectured in the Department of Economics a lecturer from 1982 to 1988, as an Assistant Professor from 1988 to 1994. He took study leave for his PhD research from 1994 to 1996. He completed his PhD under IRRI, Philippines and Dhaka University and join again and working as an associate professor from 1997 to 2001. Now he is working as a Professor since June 2001. He also taught “Micro Economics” for one semester (1999 Fall) in the Department of Finance and Economics, in the University of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

Akash was a member of the first board of directors of the Micro Credit Regulatory Authority. He is currently a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, Chairman of the Dhaka University Bureau of Economic Research, Senior Fellow of BIDS, and a member of the expert panel set up to formulate Bangladesh's Second Perspective Plan (2021-41). He is life member of Bangla Academy and Economics Association.

Akash’s notable books are Classification and Political Trends of Language Movement, Economy of Bangladesh: Past-Present and Future, Economics of Bangladesh and Poverty Reduction Strategies of the International Development Community: The scope for structural change.
