Yusuf Hussain Humayun (born 14 November 1936) is a Bangladeshi politician and lawyer. He is currently the elected Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Bar Council. He was the former president of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association. He was a close associate of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of Bangladesh. He is currently a member of the Advisory Council of the Bangladesh Awami League.
Humayun was born in the Bhola district Sadar Upazila. He passed his Undergraduate and Postgraduate in Law from Dhaka University. He served as the General Secretary of Dhaka University Chhatra League during his student life. As a student leader Humayun has led the war of independence of Bangladesh from different battlefields of Barisal and Dhaka. After getting close to Bangabandhu, he became inspired by the spirit of independence as a young lawyer in 1971 and formed public opinion in different villages of Barisal and worked to spread the spirit of independence among the Bengalis. Although not an armed fighter, he was recognized as an organizer of freedom fighters in Dhaka and Barisal.
In the first parliamentary elections of 1973, Humayun was elected as a Member of Parliament from the then Bakerganj-4 constituency as a candidate of Bangladesh Awami League. In the 2008 general election of Bangladesh, he became a candidate for the boat symbol from Bhola-1 seat of the Jatiya Sangsad. Andalib Rahman Perth of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP), a four-party alliance candidate, lost to him in that election.
Humayun has been serving as the Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Council since July 8, 2016. He is currently a member of the Awami League Advisory Council and convener of the Bangabandhu Awami Bar Council. Prior to that, he was the President of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association. He used to write columns in the daily Prothom Alo.
