Mahmudur Rahman Manna (born 1 November 1948) is a Bangladeshi politician and a media personality. He was former Organizing Secretary of ruling party Bangladesh Awami League; the Wall Street Journal described him as a "fierce critic of the government". He was arrested after a leaked conversion where he was asked if he would agree to talk to an army officer, not named.
In 1968 Manna became the convener of Chhatra League. In 1972, he was elected General Secretary of Chittagong University Central Student Union (CUCSU). In 1973 he was the general secretary of Jasad Chhatra League and in 1976 he was the central president of Jasad Chhatra League. He came to Dhaka in 1979 and was elected Vice President (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU). In 1980 he formed the Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD). He was active in the anti-Ershad movement from 1983 to 1990. He joined the Bangladesh Awami League in 1991 and served as the organizing secretary of the Awami League. In 2009 he was dropped from the post.
Manna is the co-founding Convener of Nagorik Oikko a civil society platform of Bangladesh. He was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion on 25 February 2015, after a leaked conversation with Bangladesh Nationalist Part leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka, on which he called for a stronger movement against the Bangladesh Awami league government. In the conversation he advised Khoka to seize Dhaka University dormitories. He talked with another unidentified person who suggested contacting Bangladesh Army officers to make a change in government.
The National Human Rights Commission of Bangladesh had called for his arrest. Nagorik Oikko has called for his release. Former Prime Mckground:inister Khaleda Zia has demanded for his release, he was released on bail in November 2016.
