Apu Ukil (born 09 January 1972) is a Bangladeshi teacher, politician and former Member of Parliament for the reserved women's seat 02 in the Ninth National Assembly. She served as the founder general secretary of Bangladesh Awami Jubo Mahila League for almost 20 years.
Apu was born in Shariatpur district. Later, she married to politician Asim Kumar Ukil and became active in regional politics from Netrakona.
Apu's entry into politics by Obaidul Quader who is the General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, while she was writing for Dainik Bangla newspaper. She involved in student politics while at the Begum Badrunnessa College and participated in student parliament elections. Later came to the leadership of Awami Jubo Mahila League.
Apu actively participated in the anti-dictatorship movement in the eighties. From 2001 to 2006, she always took to the streets to protest against the BNP-Jamaat alliance. She stood up against the illegal 1/11 government and started a movement to free Sheikh Hasina from prison. She was the first to ignore the bloodshed of the 1/11 government and collected signatures for the release of Sheikh Hasina. It was at that time that she successfully held the Divisional Representative Meeting under the banner of Jubo Mahila League at Bangabandhu Avenue to protest against the release of Sheikh Hasina and the illegal government. She was arrested and imprisoned hundreds of times while the movements.
Apu writes regularly. Her notable books are 7th March Historical Speech: Significance and Analysis, Mujibnagar Government: Context and History, Swarane Bhaswar: Shaheed Captain M. Mansoor Ali, Bangabandhu and Bangladesh, Jatiya Sangsade Sarab, Sheikh Russell Our Love, Apu Ukil in Tritiyo Matra, Sarvamsaha Sangamri Ma Begum Fazilatun Nessa Mujib, Dhusar Pandulipi, Kingbadanti etc. The total number of books published by her is twenty.
Apu was elected to parliament from reserved seat as a Bangladesh Awami League candidate in 2008. She is the founding General Secretary of Jubo Mohila Awami League who served from March 2004 to December 2022.
