Bangladesh complete 3-0 sweep over Zimbabwe

Bangladesh overcame the resistance of Regis Chakabva to beat Zimbabwe by 186 runs in the third Test and complete a 3-0 sweep in three-Test series in Chittagong on Sunday. Middle-order batsman Chakabva left stranded on 89 as Zimbabwe, set a world record target of 449 runs, were all out 262 runs in their second innings with a session left on the fifth day. Shafiul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Jubair Hossain and Shuvagata Hom each grabbed two wickets to have a hand in Bangladesh win, with the hosts first time winning all three Tests of a series. Zimbabwe, resumed on 71-1 and began stuttering at lunch break when they reached 186-5, despite a dogging 93-run partnership between two overnight batsmen Sikandar Raza and Hamilton Masakadza.

Shuvagata earned the breakthrough for Bangladesh when Masakadza went for a reverse sweep to top edge a catch to wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim for 38. Sikandar followed him soon giving a catch to Taijul at deep midwicket off Shuvagata for 65. Brendan Taylor fell to Jubair for the second time in the game to hole out a catch to Sakib al Hasan at point for 24. Jubair struck again as Imrul Kayes took a sharp catch at slip to remove Elton Chigumbura for five. Craig Ervine, Richmond Mutumbami and Tinashe Panyangara were all judged leg-before respectively off the bowling of Mahmudullah, Taijul and Rubel. Shafiul mopped up the tail to remove Shingi Masakadza and Natsai M’shangwe in over to complete the win. Mominul Haque was adjudged man of the match for his 48 and 131 not out in two innings. This is only seventh Test win for Bangladesh in 88 Tests and fifth against Zimbabwe. Bangladesh post a tense three-wicket win in the first Test in Dhaka and then beat Zimbabwe convincingly by 162 in the second Test in Khulna. Sakib named man of the series.
