The Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed made room in the party’s top policy body as the party on Saturday announced full committees of its council of advisers, national standing committee and national executive committee four months after the council session.
The party’s secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, announced the names of 17 members of the 19-member national standing committee, 73 members of council of advisers, 35 vice-chairmen of the national executive committee, seven joint- secretaries-general, and other office bearers of 502-member committee at a news conference at the party’s central office at Naya Paltan.
Among the 17 members of the standing committee, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Salahuddin Ahmed are new comers.
The sixth national council session of the party ended on March 19 night without forming new national executive committee and national standing committee and empowering party chairperson Khaleda Zia to form the committees.
The councillors had unanimously vested the authority in Khaleda at the main council session presided over by Khaleda Zia at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh.
The session had also approved the unopposed re-election of chairperson Khaleda Zia and senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman, also her eldest son.
The councillors also approved amendments brought to the party constitution. The session was open for all.
According to the amendments, no office bearer in the central committee and president and general secretary of any unit would be allowed to be in any other committee. The chairperson will, however, have the authority to keep any leader in more than one position temporarily.
