Two siblings’ throat-slit body recovered in city, mother held

Police recovered throat-slit bodies of two minor siblings from a house at Uttar Basabo in Dhaka on Friday night.
They also arrested the victims’ mother Tanzina Begum, who went in hiding after the incident, from a road near their residence at around 8:00am on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Mashrafi Bin Mahbub Abrar, 7, son of Mahbubur Rahman, and Abrar’s six-year-old sister Humaira Binte Mahbub Takia. The victim’s father is a staff of Dhaka WASA.
Sabujbagh Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Kuddus, quoting family members, said the victims’ father found the door of their house locked from outside when he returned after saying Esha prayers at a local mosque.
Later, he entered the house by opening it only and found the throat-slit bodies of the two siblings in the bedroom.
He said that the victims’ mother Tanzina Begum went into hiding after the incident.
The OC said that they recovered the bodies of the children from the room of the house at 157/2 of Uttar Basabo near Sabujbagh Community Centre around 10:00pm and sent them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for post mortem examination.
Some locals said the victims’ mother was mentally sick and often used to behave ‘abnormally.’
The Sabujbagh OC said that they arrested the mother from a road near their residence at around 8:00am while she was roaming about the area aimlessly.
‘It is not sure whether she is mentally sick or not,’ he said.
The victims’ father has filed a case in connection with the killings.
