Do not break discipline, Annisul tells utility agencies

Dhaka north city mayor Annisul Huq on Wednesday asked utility agencies not to break discipline during implementation of any development project in the city corporation area.
He also asked the heads and representatives of the respective agencies at the first inter-departmental cooperation meeting held at Gulshan to inform their plan and any other steps for development to the city corporation authorities at least six months before they would start work.
He said, ‘People suffer for all agencies but they blame city authorities only.’
The mayor called on the bosses of the respective utility agency to attend the next meeting to be held in the first week of December instead of sending their representatives.
He also asked Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha chairman M Bazlul Karim Chaudhury to take all necessary initiatives to demolish 165 risky building under the DNCC and hand over all three parks owned by RAJUK to the city authorities immediately.
Chief waste management officer of Dhaka North City Corporation AM Razzak said in many areas where the Roads and Highways Department take footpath and other spaces on lease, the city authorities cannot do their duties.
The mayor asked the respective of the agencies not to lease passenger sheds, footpaths, hoardings and the facilities without permission.
The mayor said according to plan the city corporation would renovate or newly build only 500km road where the WASA had a plan to cut 1,500km road by this time.
‘If we could not go through a planned way, city people’s sufferings will never reduce,’ he said.
Dhaka divisional commissioner Helal Uddin Ahmed, managing director of Water Supply & Sewerage Authority Tasqem A Khan, director general of Bangladesh fire service and civil defence Ali Ahmed Khan, high officials of different government agencies and councillors were present.
