Ashraf seeks restoration of Bangladesh-China road links

Awami League general secretary and public administration minister Syed Ashraful Islam on Sunday described Bangladesh-China ties as ‘historic and empathic’ as it was rooted in history while he sought restoration of an old road link for regional benefit with India having an important stake. ‘Our relation is as old as the history of ancient Chinese and Indian civilizations date back to and it is more empathic than political in nature . . . the relations continued till date for mutual benefit and economic development,’ he told a function to mark 67th anniversary of Chinese democratic revolution. Syed Ashraf sought restoration of an old Bangladesh and China road link saying it would benefit the regional countries including India. Bangladesh Samyabadi Dal organised the function at BMA Auditorium with its general secretary and former minister Dilip Barua in the chair. Syed Ashraf said the upcoming visit of the Chinese president to Bangladesh would be an historic event for bilateral ties while Dhaka waited to accord him a warm reception. Political councillor to the Chinese ambassador in Bangladesh Yang Jao Hui, Ganotantri Party's general secretary Shahadat Hossen and Politburo member Lutfur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.
