ACC arrests CCC, PWD engineers

The Anti-Corruption Commission on Sunday arrested Chittagong City Corporation executive engineer Md Saifur Rahman and Public Workers Department superintendent engineer ABM Jalal Uddin on charge of their alleged graft links.
The commission deputy director Mozhar Ali Sardar arrested Jalal Uddin form the capital on charge of embezzlement of public fund worth of Tk 4.74 lakh.
In 2013, the commission filed a case against Jalal in this connection.
New Age Chittagong correspondent reported that the commission arrested Chittagong City Corporation executive engineer Md Saifur Rahman in a graft case lodged on allegations of earning wealth illegally and concealing information of his wealth in a statement submitted to the ACC. 
A team of the ACC Chittagong office arrested Saifur around 10:30am from the port city’s Kotwali area, said Mosharraf Hossain, deputy director of ACC Chittagong district office. 
Mosharraf said Hamidul Hasan, deputy director of the ACC head office in Dhaka lodged a case accusing Saifur with Chittagong city’s Kulshi Police on July 17, 2016 under the Anti-Corruption Act 2004, after conducting an inquiry. 
‘Saifur was charged for amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 33.93 lakh in the case. Besides, the engineer hid information about his wealth worth Tk 1.40 lakh in his wealth statement which he had submitted earlier,’ said Mosharraf. 
The arrestee was produced before a Chittagong court. 
The ACC public prosecutor Mahmadul Haque said the court of Chittagong metropolitan magistrate Nazmul Hasan sent the CCC engineer to jail rejecting a bail prayer.
