Stop illegal sales of alcohol: HC

The High Court on Monday directed the government to take steps within 48 hours to stop selling of liquor, beer and alcohol in any unlicensed bars operating in Gulshan and Banani vicinities in the capital.The court also directed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner, the directorate general and director (operations) of department of narcotics control to submit reports on their actions within 10 days.

The bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice Md Khasruzzaman passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by a non-government organisation, the Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.The HRPB filed the petition following some media reports that said wine, beer and other alcoholic beverages were being sold on various unaccredited mini-bars in the posh neighborhoods of Gulshan and Banani, spoiling the lives of many citizens, especially the youths.
