Locomotive swerves onto platform at Chittagong station
A locomotive swerved off the track onto a platform of Chittagong Railway Station on Wednesday morning during rearrangement of passenger coaches, reports the United News of Bangladesh. Mafizur Rahman, additional chief engineer (Bridges) at the railway station, said the locomotive and a coach veered off the track and got onto the platform no. 4 of the station around 5:30am. It was reorganising passenger cars of the ‘Mohanagar Provati’ train bound for Dhaka. The glasses and parts of the engine were damaged as it plowed through the concrete platform, said Mafizur Rahman. No one, however, was injured during the incident. The train which was scheduled to leave the station for Dhaka around 7.00am left the station 50 minutes later. A four-member committee was formed to investigate into the unusual incident, Mafizur Rahman added.
