HC declines bail for AL MP Amanur

The High Court on Sunday declined bail to ruling Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Rana to jail after rejecting his bail petition in a case for killing freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed in 2013.

The bench of Justice Md Abu Zafor Siddique and Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury passed the order hearing an appeal of the lawmaker.

Supreme Court lawyers Abdul Baset Majumder and Abdul Matin Khasru stood for the MP.

The court said if the parliament was in session it might consider the appeal and rejecting it considering the gravity of the crime.

A Tangail court September 18 sent Amanur to jail after rejecting his bail petition.

Having remained fugitive for over a year, the MP from Tangail-3 (Ghatail) constituency surrendered before the court of First Additional District and Sessions Judge Abul Mansur Miah in the morning and pleaded for bail.
