ILLEGAL WEALTH : Verdict in AL MP Badi’s case Nov 2

The Dhaka Special Judge’s Court 3 on Wednesday posted for November 2 its verdict in a case against ruling Awami League lawmaker Abdur Rahman Badi for amassing illegal wealth and hiding information in his wealth report.
The judge of the court,
Abu Ahmed Jamadar passed the order ending the hearing in the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Badi, elected from Cox’s Bazar-4 parliamentary constituency, was present in court.
The court has recorded testimonies of 13 prosecution witnesses.
On August 21, 2014, the commission’s deputy director Mohammad Abdus Sobhan filed the case with Ramna police station accusing Badi amassing illegal wealth of Tk 11.5 crore, which was disproportionate to his legal income and hiding information about the illegal wealth in the wealth report submitted to the commission on February 23, 2014.
On May 7, 2015, the commission’s deputy director Manjil Morshed, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against Badi.
The charge sheet stated that although Badi claimed that he had acquired the assets with income generated from his export-import business, he could not produce any valid document.
In the wealth statement, Badi also mentioned an additional amount of about Tk 2 crore showing a higher price of his sold assets to make it legal, the charge sheet added.
