SUST expels BCL leader, police to submit charge sheet soon

The authorities of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology on Sunday expelled a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader on charge of assaulting Khadiza Akter Nargis, a second year bachelor’s student of Sylhet Government Women’s College.
The leader, Badrul Alam, the university unit BCL assistant general secretary, earned hatred from home and abroad for wounding Khadiza, now recovering from a brain hemorrhage at Square Hospital, in the capital city.
SUST syndicate made the decision in a meeting held in the afternoon, sources in the administration said.
Meanwhile, the police investigator who has been probing the case against Badrul, said, he will submit the charge sheet against Badrul soon.
Physicians at the Square Hospital in Dhaka said the left part of the body of the college girl is still inactive.
SUST syndicate member Prof. Kabir Hossain, who attended the syndicate meeting, confirmed the news of Badrul’s expulsion.
‘The decision to expel Badrul was taken after the fact finding committee presented its report to the syndicate meeting,’ he explained.
Earlier on October 4, SUST syndicate had suspended Badrul and formed a three-member committee headed by the university acting proctor Rashed Talukder to probe into the assault.
Badrul, a fourth year economics student of SUST, hacked Khadiza on her head and hands when she came out of her examination hall at MC College in the city on October 3. She had turned down his love affair proposal, earlier.
Badrul was produced before a metropolitan magistrate court on Sunday for hearing in the case. The court set next hearing on November 15, police said.
Talking to New Age, Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Zedan Al Musa said police investigation in the case was about to complete.
‘Charge sheet in the case would be submitted soon to the court,’ said, Sylhet Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner, Zedan Al Musa.
Square Hospital’s brain and spine surgeon Rejaus Satter, under whom Khadiza is now being treated, told New Age that Khadiza mutters sometimes.
‘But she mutters irrelevant words…She does not speak cognitively,’ he said.
