Verdict against cricketer Shahadat, wife on Nov 6

The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 on Monday set November 6 for delivering verdict against cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife Jesmine Jahan Nitya in a case filed over torturing their domestic help.

The judge of the tribunal, Tanzina Ismail, set the date upon completion of arguments of both sides.

Shahadat and his wife, who were on bail, appeared before the tribunal today.

The tribunal on February 22 indicted the couple for torturing their 11-year-old domestic help.

The tribunal had framed the charges rejecting petitions filed by Shahadat and Jesmine seeking their discharge from the case.

Earlier on February 4, the tribunal took cognizance of the charges.

Mirpur police station officer-in-charge (investigation) Md Shafiqur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, had submitted the charge sheet against the couple in the case on December 29, 2015.

According to the charge sheet, on September 6, 2015 journalist Khandkar Mozammel Haque found the couple’s domestic help lying injured on a road at Sangbadik Colony at Pallabi in the capital.

He rescued the child who told him that cricketer Shahadat and his wife had been mercilessly torturing her for a long time, and failing to endure their torture, she fled from their house.

On October 4, 2015, police had arrested Shahadat’s wife at Malibagh in the capital. Shahadat had surrendered before the court on the following day.
