Arms suppliers to Gulshan attackers held in city

Police on Thursday claimed they arrested four people who supplied arms and raw materials for making grenade to the attackers to Gulshan restaurant.  

They carried arms and grenade making materials to Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, and Marzan, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

On August 27 morning, Tamim, 31, and two others were found dead in two rooms at their rented apartment in Paikpara area in Narayanganj city after the police headquarters-guided 45-minute operation Hit-Strong 27 ended.

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crimes unit arrested the four at Darus Salam in the city around 9:00pm on Wednesday,

The arrestees were identified as Abu Taher, Mizanur Rahman, Selim Mia, and Toufiqul Islam.

Police also recovered 787 detonators and a 0.9mm pistol from their possession.

Masudur Rahman, also the DMP spokesperson, said.

In the attack on Holey Artisan Bakery on July 1, the attackers killed 20 hostages — nine Italian, seven Japanese, two Bangladeshis, one Indian, and one Bangladesh-born US citizen — and two police officers. 
Five attackers were also killed in a military operation that ended the hostage crisis on July 2.
