Sayedul vows quitting cabinet if anyone can prove his abusing Hindus

The minister for fisheries and livestock, Sayedul Hoque, on Sunday said he would quit cabinet if anyone could prove that he had made abusive remarks on Hindu people.

The minister denied abusing Hindu community people and accused rights groups and his political opponents of attempting to ruin his political career.

The minister, who claimed to have founded Awami League in Nasirnagar of Brahmanbaria in 1968, said he has no record of abusing Hindu people. ‘If anyone can prove it, I will resign from cabinet,’ he said at a news conference at Ashutosh Pilot High School in Nasirnagar.

‘I established Nasirnagar Awami League at Datta Bari in 1968 after completing my MA degree. How could I make such a remark demeaning the Hindus!’ he said.

The minister came down heavily on Ain O Salish Kendra founder Sultana Kamal, Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikya Parishad leader Rana Dasgupta, National Human Rights Commission chairman Kazi Reazul Huq from making comments without consulting him. He also slammed Sultana Kamal for not meeting him during her visit to the affected area.

He also accused Brahmanbaria district Awami League president RAM Ubaidul Muktadir Chowdhury of conspiring against him by expelling three of his supporters.

‘Our party’s joint general secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said the district committee has no authority to expel lower leaders. They have done it out of their jurisdiction,’ the minister said.

The minister claimed that anti-Awami League people and the party’s activists from outside Nasirnagar ‘might have instigated the attacks on Hindus and temples’.
