Suspected outlawed party leader killed in gunfight in Khulna

A suspected leader of outlawed Biplobi Communist Party leader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between police and the party operatives at a bamboo garden at Garakhula under Phultala in Khulna early Tuesday. The deceased was Billal Hossain, 35, of Jugnipasha village of Phultala. He was wanted in at least 14 cases filed only with Phultala police station, said ASI Md Asmot Ali, the duty officer of the police station. He said that a team of Phultala police, on secret information conducted a raid at Garakhola area.  As soon as the police team reached near a bamboo garden at the area, the outlaws opened fired on police at about 1:30am, he said. He said that police also retaliated by firing. The police officer said that after the gunfight, police searched the area and found Billal bullet hit left abandoned and took him to Phultala Health Complex where doctors declared him dead. Police recovered one country made shutter gun, three rounds of bullets and some sharp weapons from the spot.
