BNP rejects police probe report

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday rejected the report of police probe into attacks on Hindu community at Nasirnagar in Brahmanbaria terming the report ‘false’ and ‘fabricated’ to save the local lawmaker and minister.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a briefing at the party’s central office at Nayapaltan said that Nasirnagar upazila unit BNP vice-president Jamal Uddin and union Jubadal vice-president Billal Hossain
were named along with 18 Awami League leaders and activists in the report on government influence to balance AL’s
misdeeds.
Police headquarters probe committee submitted the report on Monday.
Rizvi alleged that the government named the two BNP leaders in the report to save the local lawmaker and minister and AL
leaders.
He said that media reports proved that the attacks on religious minorities were staged following internal conflict of the Awami League and local lawmaker and minister was involved in it.
Referring to the ruling party’s move to form new Election Commission through a search committee, Rizvi said that there was no doubt that if the president constituted the search committee it would reflect the prime minister’s instruction.
He said that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia would place a framework on reconstitution of the commission on Friday.
BNP leaders Abdus Salam, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Syed Emran Saleh Prince and Abdus Salam Azad, among others, were present.
