1.43 lakh students absent on first day of primary exams

About 1.43 lakh students were absent from the first exam of primary and ibtedayi completion examinations on Sunday, according to Directorate of Primary Education exam control room.
A total of 1,01,017 students were absent from the first exam of Primary Education Completion Examinations and 42,299 from Ibtedayi Education Completion examinations, as per the control room information. 
This year, a total of 32,30,288 students registered to take the exams across the country. 
Of the over 32.30 lakh students, 29.30 million are set to take Primary Education Completion Examinations and 2.99 lakh Ibtadayi Education Completion Examinations.
The exam was held peacefully without report of untoward incidents, said primary and mass education minister Mostafizur Rahman while visiting the Agrani School and College exam centre in the capital.
The students took English exam on the first day and will sit for Bangla exam today.
According to the schedule, the general education students will take Bangladesh and Global studies on November 22, basic science on November 23, religious instructions on November 24 and mathematics on November 27.
The madrassah students will take Bangladesh and Global studies on November 22, Arabic on November 23, Qur’an and tajbid on November 24 and mathematics on November 27.
The examinations will be held between 11:00am and 1:30pm.
The Primary Completion Examinations, the largest public examinations of the country, were introduced in 2009 while Ibtedayi Completion Examinations for madrassah students in 2010.
The students must pass the exams for enrolment in Class VI and on the basis of their results scholarships will be distributed under talent pool and general categories.
