24 trucks parked as Khaleda’s confinement continues

At least 24 trucks laden with sand and bricks were parked in front of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the capital and its adjacent roads in a bid to block the roads to her office. Those trucks did parking in between 12:00am to 1:00am on Monday. Security has been tightened and more policemen were deployed in the area. The police are not allowing anyone to enter in the party office. The party chairperson was confined since Saturday night and police are not letting her out, BNP sources alleged.

The sources said Khaleda will try to come out at around 11:00am. The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, however, ruled out BNP’s allegation that Khaleda had been confined to her Gulshan office and termed it a drama. ‘Khaleda Zia is not confined to her Gulshan office…Who has confined her? She can move to her house any time,’ Hasina said while exchanging views with leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League at her official residence Ganabhaban on Sunday evening. Tension gripped people as the BNP on Sunday vowed to hold the rally it planned for Monday defying a ban that Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Sunday morning imposed for all rallies and gatherings in the capital until further order. Both BNP and Awami League along with their allies stood face-off centering January 5, the day the then BNP led alliance boycotted the national election one year ago.
