PM pays homage to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Homecoming Day

The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, paid tributes to the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his portrait at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the capital’s Dhanmondi on Saturday morning on the occasion of the Homecoming Day of the architect of independent Bangladesh.Sheikh Hasina first placed a wreath there as the prime minister and stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, United News of Bangladesh reports.Flanked by senior leaders of the party, Hasina placed another wreath as the president of Bangladesh Awami League at the portrait of the great leader.


Cabinet members, parliament members and senior leaders of Awami League and its associate bodies were present.Later, leaders of AL associate bodies, including Juba League, Chhatra League, Sramik League, Mahila Awami League, Swechchhasebak League, Juba Mahila League, Krishak League and socio-cultural organisations laid wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.On this day in 1972, Sheikh Mujib returned to independent Bangladesh after nine and a half months’ of captivity in a Pakistan jail.Since then, the day is being observed by the nation as the Homecoming Day of the great leader.
