Ban on rally gone, AL organises meeting in city
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) gave conditional permission to ruling Awami League to hold a rally at Shuhrawardy Udyan on Monday, reports United News of Bangladesh. It also withdraws its ban on rallies and processions in the city. DPM deputy commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman told UNB over phone that the DMP commissioner has signed the related papers for allowing AL to hold its rally at Shuhrawardy Udyan today, ending the 9-day-long ban on rallies and processions in the city. Prime minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to address the rally. AL had sought permission to hold the rally on Friday. Earlier, the DMP imposed the ban on rallies and processions in the capital for an indefinite period amid heated political situation from January 4.
