Splash of rain makes city air cleaner

It was a splash of rain, much awaited though, that made the city cleaner early Saturday. Leaves look greener; dusts are gone turning city air breathable. The department of meteorology said the brief rain may continue in Dhaka and some other places in the country today, too. Bazlur Rashid, a meteorologist said southerly and westerly wind accompanied by two troughs caused this precipitation in Dhaka, Faridpur and Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions. Generally dry, the Bangladesh’ winter gets surprising rain in between December and February. Bazlur Rashid said the rain caused temperature to fall up to 1.2 degree Celsius at different parts of the country. In the capital the volume of rain was only 2 millimeter and that highest rain was recorded at Kutubdia island, 19 millimeter, he said. In its forecast Met office said moderate to thick fog may occur over the river basins and light to moderate fog elsewhere over the country. Meanwhile, a mild cold wave is sweeping over the regions of Jessore, Kushtia and Srimangal and it may abate.
