Khaleda made a mistake by not accepting Hasina’s pre-Jan 5 invitation: B Chy.

Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury said Thursday that it was a political mistake of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia not agreeing to sit  across the table with prime minister Sheikh Hasina responding to her telephone call before the January 5 election. B Chowdhury, a partner of the BNP-led opposition alliance, however, urged the Sheikh Hasina to extend invitation to  Khaleda Zia again for dialogue to restore peaceful political atmosphere. He made the call at a discussion on the  political crisis facing the nation and the way out of it organized by Peshajibi Samannay Parishad at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium. Jahangirnagar University former vice chancellor Khandaker Mostahidur Rahman, PSP acting general secretary Ruhul Amin Gazi and National Press Club general secretary Syed Abdal Ahmed spokeamong others. ‘It was a political mistake not to respond to the prime minister’s telephone call for dialogue.

It is a courtesy to respond if anyone invites you. Why you will not respond to an invitation,’ B Chowdhury said. Sheikh Hasina had invited her arch political rival Khaleda Zia to a dialogue over dinner at the prime minister’s official residence Ganabhaban to resolve the crisis created by the scrapping the provision of elections under care taker government by amending the Constitution by the Awami League-led government. Khaleda had conditionally accepted the invitation, saying that she could attend the dinner at the end of the 60-hour shutdown against the January 5 elections. B Chowdhury asked the prime minister why she was unwilling to extend a second invitation to Khaleda for dialogue in the larger interest of the people and the country. ‘As the head of the government it is your  own responsibility to protect the nation and provide peace to all the citizens,’ he said.
