Khaleda starving, says Selima

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, is abstaining from taking food protesting at the authorities’ obstruction to food supply for her office staff and party leaders staying with her, said the party vice-chairman Selima Rahman on Sunday. Selima, standing on the terrace of Khaleda’s office, talked to newsmen waiting outside the main entrance of the office after police intercepted food supply into the office for the fifth straight day. Selima Rahman said the inspector general of police was lying about supply of food into the BNP chairperson’s office. ‘Policemen here say they were intercepting food and taking the foodstuff to police station at the order from higher echelon. I want to know who is issuing such order,’ she said. At around 2:30pm, a rickshaw-puller Shahidul Islam brought 30 packets of food and bottled water to the office saying someone had asked him to reach the food to the office but police did not allow him to enter the office.

He then left the food on pavement outside the office. The inspector general of police Shahidul Hoque claimed on Saturday that food items went in Khaleda’s office regularly. The police chief also said they had information that Khaleda was taking food and was physically well.
