Khaleda to face trial: PM
The prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, on Wednesday told parliament that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson, Khaleda Zia, must face trial for ‘killing people and damaging property.’ Referring to a news item published in an English daily on banned Islamist outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir on February 11, Hasina said, ‘The newspaper instigates militancy by publishing a little known poster pasted by banned Hizb ut-Tahrir at a place in Banglamotor area…Legal action will be taken against the newspaper.’ Replying to a supplementary question from Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman (Narayanganj-4), the prime minister also accused Khaleda of having a link with international militant group Islamic State. ‘Khaleda Zia along with Jamaat-e-Islami men is killing people through arsons and damaging property of the people and the government…She is giving orders from her office…Why she has been staying at her office,’ Hasina said. ‘Cases have been filed and the law will take its own course…Necessary actions will be taken as per the law against Khaleda Zia,’ she said adding that Khaleda could not avoid responsibility for the killing of people during blockade

Hasina said, ‘Islamic State burned 45 Egyptians to death…She [Khaleda] has a connection with them [IS] and she is now burning people of my country to death joining hands with them…There is no difference between Jamaat and IS.’ Hasina said that people hated BNP and they would not utter BNP’s name, but spit on it. ‘Targeting Secondary School Certificate examinations, Khaleda Zia suddenly called hartal from February 2,’ Hasina said, adding, ‘what she would gain by damaging the academic life of 15 lakh examinees?
